Do you get frustrated with bigger stronger people in BJJ?

This is the question I got from Dan recently. Dan is a White Belt in BJJ and is becoming very frustrated when rolling with partners in his BJJ gym who are powerhouses. They just overpower all of his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques.

In this video I address firstly the fact that getting Frustrated is the worst place you can let your mind go.

Getting frustrated leads to anger, irritation and a complete abandonment of the problem solving mindset that is needed for Brazilian Jiujitsu.

I mean if you’re not going to quit BJJ. Then understand that this is sort of what you signed up for. You signed up for tough stuff that is going to push you and make you better. And sometimes it’s not easy.

After this, I share the way that I approach bigger stronger people in BJJ.

The big strategy for me is to focus first on weathering the storm and relaxing to a certain degree.

Since I can’t assert myself head on against the person. I take my time until the opportunity is right for me to attack. Once I feel my opening I go 100%.

I hope this video is helpful for you and your BJJ. Especially if you’re up against a bigger stronger opponent. Whether during rolling in your BJJ gym or during a Brazilian Jiujitsu competition.

Thanks!
