BJJ Mental Coach Gustavo Dantas: The seventh most common mental mistake Jiu-Jitsu competitors make is “Negative self-talk”.

Do you think about what you think about? Think about that! How self-aware of your thoughts are you?

How many times have you thought about a goal that you’ve had, either in BJJ, your personal and/or professional life when suddenly you got overwhelmed with so many negative thoughts, assumptions and doubts that you ended up talking yourself out of it? Or maybe after an undesired outcome, like a tournament loss you took extremely hard and kept dwelling on the fact that it happened saying things like: “I’m not good enough!” or “I’m always messing something up”.

Negative self-talk can keep people trapped in the past with regret, undesired outcomes, the uncertainty of the future and the fear of the unknown.

Don’t let your negative chatter become an obstacle. It’s time to quiet your mind and take back control of your thoughts.

In this video, I will share with you three steps to handle negative self-talk to focus on the moment, not in the past or the future. You can use this for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments (before, during and after match), as well in your personal and professional life.
