Jean Jacques Machado was born with ABS (Amniotic Band Syndrome), which is when the fetus of an unborn child has restricted blood flow due to being entangled in fibrous string-like amniotic bands. This can affect the baby’s development causing missing limbs and other physical birth defects. It’s not genetic, totally random and sadly can be the cause of a miscarriage. Though he was born without fingers on his left hand, being the warrior that he is, he kept pressing forward since the day he was born with great exuberance and tenacity. After all, he had an ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) title to win. He’s considered one of the best competitors and teachers ever for good reason; helping mold the games of the likes of Eddie Bravo and Matt Baker to name a few, both excellent teachers in their own right. Luckily for us here we were honored to be taught a lesson (literally) by the most recognized of the Machado clan.

Jean Jacques showed us how get a turtled opponent out of their shell (so to speak) and expose their neck to secure a choke. In this video he demonstrates how to perform a rolling collar choke. Assisting him is black belt, Matt Baker.

If you’re ever in the Tarzana (and now Malibu) area(s) of California you can do just that by visiting his school and walking to the mat.
