When learning BJJ for Self Defense, the application of the Jiu-Jitsu Technique must change slightly. There are many Half Guard Techniques to learn in Jiu-Jitsu, but not all half guard techniques are great BJJ Self Defense.

The way we like to think about the BJJ Half Guard, is that is an attacking BJJ guard where we can use the good self-defense techniques and concepts to create space and get back to our feet; use half guard sweep techniques to get to your opponents back and finish them with BJJ Self-Defense Chokes / Submissions or finish with punches or kicks.
