Am I too old for BJJ? This questions comes up so often. I get this questions almost daily. Either from people interested in training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in Louisville, KY, or I get the question from people who watch the videos and read the blog.

The short answer to the “ Am I too old to train BJJ?” question is simply. . . No, you’re not too old.

There are so many other factors that people deal with that age isn’t nearly as important as people make it out to be in their heads. I say this with the experience of training people all the ways from 4 years old to people well into their 60s. And they are all able to enjoy Brazilian Jiujitsu with no issues.

That said, you’ll have to be sure that you know why you’re training and focus on that. If you are a little older. You’re not going to be the next adult age BJJ world champion. That ship has sailed.

So it’s important to keep your goals in mind and just be the best that you can possibly be.

The biggest thing I would share with you if you are a littler older and wanting to do BJJ is simply just do it.

Don’t let time pass you by. I’ve had so many people come into our gym to train Brazilian Jiujitsu and they’re so frustrated that they started their BJJ training so late. Even though they thought about doing it years ago.

The worst thing that will happen is that you won’t like it. And if that’s the case. No biggie.

The best thing that happens is that you absolutely love it and you have a new activity that you can grow and love for years to come.

So just take the step and stop worrying about being too old for BJJ. Start training!
